Michael Phelps penned a heartwarming note for his wife, Nicole Phelps, on their eighth marriage anniversary. The couple held two ceremonies in 2016, one a private gathering in June which was attended by only five people and another in October which saw a larger attendance.

Phelps, the greatest Olympian of all time, crossed paths with Nicole Johnson at the 2007 ESOY Awards. The duo broke up and reunited several times until they got engaged in 2015 and tied the nuptial knot in 2016. On June 13, only five people attended the private backyard wedding ceremony, which Phelps' agent, Peter Carlisle officiated in Tempe, Arizona.

The Phelps couple then hosted a destination wedding in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico on October 29. The picturesque wedding location, overlooking the beach, welcomed 50 guests, and Phelps' son Boomer, was the ring bearer.

Celebrating the eighth anniversary of their memorable destination wedding day, Phelps took to his Instagram handle to post a picture carousel with his wife and paired it with a heartfelt caption.

"Happy anniversary @mrs.nicolephelps ! My better half and my best friend! #8 Love you."

The pictures featured the couple in various settings- at the airport, by the swimming pool, at an event, etc.

In June this year, Phelps celebrated his 39th birthday and his eighth legal marriage anniversary with Nicole. In an exclusive interview with People, the former swimmer expressed his wish to build a better future with his wife.

"I’m not saying every single day is easy, but I think that’s why we’re together because we challenge each other in ways to be better and grow together. So that's something that I adore," he said. (June, 2024)

Nicole Phelps has been an ambassador at the Michael Phelps Foundation since 2015. The foundation, built by the legendary swimmer, promotes wellness, water safety, and physical and mental health.

Following his six gold and two bronze medals at the 2004 Summer Olympics, Michael Phelps experienced his first bout of post-Olympic depression. This marked the beginning of a challenging period for him, as he struggled with anxiety and depression, ultimately seeking therapy to manage these mental health issues.

During those low times, his wife, Nicole Phelps, was his biggest support system. In an interview, the 39-year-old lauded his wife, saying:

"For 15 years, Nicole has seen me go up and down. There's no other person that would be able to support me like she has. She's the glue that holds all of us together, " he said to Carson Daly of Today Show in 2022.

The Phelps couple have four sons, Boomer, Beckett, Maverick, and Nico. The family attended the 2024 Paris Olympics, where Phelps served as the hospitality ambassador for both the Paris Olympics and Paralympics.
