Michael Phelps and his wife Nicole Phelps were out together recently, at the ceremony where the former was recognized with the Brand Genius Award. The couple were also seen together last month, attending the recently concluded 2024 Summer Games, where Phelps served as a hospitality ambassador for the Paris Olympics.

Michael Phelps crossed paths with the then-beauty contest competitor and model, Nicole, at the 2007 ESPY Awards. The couple dated on and off until they got engaged in 2015, and took their wedding vows in 2016. In June 2024, they celebrated their eighth wedding anniversary before heading to Paris for the quadrennial Games.

Despite retiring from swimming, Michael continues to be closely associated with the sport. He is a mental health advocate and looks to help families to be more confident in water and life through his eponymous project, The Michael Phelps Foundation.

For being one of the brightest minds to drive growth for communities, the 23-time Olympic gold medalist received the Brand Genius Award, awarded by Adweek. In Nicole's recent Instagram post, she shared photos of the couple's "date night" at the ceremony. The post's caption read,

"Date Night celebrating my hubbys Brand Genius Award from @adweek #wedontlooktiredatall"

Other honorees of Adweek's 2024 class included Maurice Cooper, Bath and Body Works' Chief Customer Officer, Alexis Ohanian, founder of Athlos, and Alicia Tillman, Chief Marketing Officer of Delta Air Lines, among others.

Nicole Phelps, the ambassador of the Foundation set up by her husband, also works to advance mental health initiatives. After their eighth wedding anniversary in June, Michael expressed his wish to build a better future with his wife. He said, (via People)

"I’m not saying every single day is easy, but I think that’s why we’re together because we challenge each other in ways to be better and grow together. So that's something that I adore."

The Phelps are parents to four boys, Boomer, Beckett, Maverick, and Nico.

Michae Phelps was hit by "post-Olympic depression" after winning six golds and two bronzes at the 2004 Athens Games. A decade later, after he was taken into custody for a DUI, Phelps took a big step toward recovery, seeking therapy at an in-patient treatment center. Following that, the former Olympian considered therapy and healed with the help of family, especially his wife Nicole.

In an interview in May 2022, Phelps shared that his wife has been fully supportive through his mental health journey, while also holding the family together. He said (via People),

"For 15 years, Nicole has seen me go up and down. There's no other person that would be able to support me like she has. She's the glue that holds all of us together."

Phelps has collaborated for some time with Talkspace, an organization that offers virtual therapy and other behavioral health services, including being its' ambassador.
