Mikaela Shiffrin extended heartfelt wishes to Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton for topping the leaderboard at the 2024 British Grand Prix. Hamilton walked home with his 104th career win and ninth British Grand Prix title, the most earned by an F1 driver in a single circuit.
Shiffrin, the winningest alpine skier with the most World Cup victories in history, surpassed the Swedish legend Ingemar Stenmark's record of 86 in 2023 and has extended her tally to 97. Shiffrin recently concluded the 2023–24 Alpine Skiing World Cup season, adding more laurels to her impressive resume.
Before the 2024/25 season kicks off, Shiffrin has shifted her attention to F1, a sport she takes an interest in. In 2021, when Red Bull Racing driver Max Verstappen and Mercedes star Lewis Hamilton earned monumental wins, she congratulated them, unveiling her penchant for F1.
Now, Shiffrin has offered another congratulatory note, this time to Lewis Hamilton, after his victory in the British Grand Prix in front of his home crowd. He clocked 1:22:27.059 and defeated No. 1 Max Verstappen, who was just 1.465s behind him.
Mikaela Shiffrin took to X to convey her message:
"HUGE!! Congrats on getting back to the top step at home, @LewisHamilton"
She replied to the post shared by the official X handle of Formula 1 which wrote:
"WHAT A DRIVE. WHAT A DRIVER."
Lewis Hamilton secured the top spot at the British Grand Prix with his recent victory. This win marked his ninth at Silverstone, but it was also his final race for Mercedes at his home Grand Prix before his move to Ferrari next year.
After the race, Hamilton was in tears and said this on the team radio:
"This means so much to me." (via BBC)
Mikaela Shiffrin expressed anticipation of watching Lewis Hamilton at the Monaco Grand Prix
In May 2024, Mikaela Shiffrin accompanied her fiance, Aleksander Kilde, to the Monaco Grand Prix to watch Lewis Hamilton in action. Hamilton came up with a post as he was moving to the next circuit stop in Monaco after his sixth-place finish at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.
Mikaela Shiffrin replied to Hamilton's post by writing:
"See you there!!"
After she graced the spectators' box on Day 1, Shiffrin was pictured with Fernando Alonso, the Spanish F1 driver, representing Aston Martin, as posted on her X handle.
