Mikaela Shiffrin echoed tennis legend Serena Williams' thoughts when the latter admitted to sleeping at 8:30 at night. Shiffrin will soon begin her 2024/25 Alpine Skiing World Cup season after facing a setback in the 2023/24 edition.
Shiffrin won her 60th slalom win and extended her overall win tally to 97 at the 2023/24 Alpine Skiing World Cup season. She etched the top spot after trouncing over the legendary Ingemar Stenmark's 86th and fellow US skier, Lindsey Vonn's 82nd mark. In January 2024, the 28-year-old faced a tragic downhill crash in Cortina d'Ampezzo, spraining the tibiofibular ligament in the knee and the MCL.
Though she returned to the competition after weeks of healing, Shiffrin lost the overall pole position to Swiss skier, Lara Gut-Behrami. After her World Cup campaign, she shifted her focus to gracing the tennis arena at the US Open finals, among other off-slope activities.
Shiffrin already shares a good bond with WTA World No. 2 Iga Swiatek and extended her heartfelt wishes to many other players at the marquee event. On October 21, the alpine skier agreed with the legendary Serena Williams when the latter talked about failing to keep herself awake past 8;30 at night.
"It’s ok that I go to bed at 8:30pm sometimes right?" Williams asked on X.
Shiffrin chimed in to share that she retires to bed at around 8:30 often does:
"Absolutely. More than sometimes."
Ahead of the 2024/25 season, Shiffrin shared that she won't compete in the downhill and meet the same fate as the past season. She and her team rather decided to be easy on the training and focus on only the speed events.
Mikaela Shiffrin visits Serena Williams' former coaches' gym to train alongside tennis players
Shiffrin was recently invited by the Mouratoglou Tennis Academy to train alongside the players in the gym. The gym was founded by Serena William's ex-coaches Bob Brett and Patrick Mouratoglou. Expressing gratitude, Shiffrin wrote:
"Pretty astounding to see the grounds there, and all the young athletes pouring into the tennis with such passion. Also got to bounce around in a field which obviously was very fun! No tennis this time, but maybe they’ll let me come back," her Instagram caption read.
Mikaela Shiffrin's first event in the upcoming season will be the giant slalom on October 26, 2024. The double Olympic gold medalist will end her season with the finals on March 22-27, 2024 at Sun Valley, United States.
