Mikaela Shiffrin has reacted to Simone Biles' recent stint as a playoff advisor of Team Snoop at The Voice. Shiffrin and Biles, arguably greatest in their respective sports, often support each other through social media or in person.
Shiffrin clinched her 99th World Cup win in the 2024/25 alpine skiing season, winning the slalom event in Gurgl, Austria. It was her 62nd World Cup in the discipline and 154th career Alpine World Cup podium. Following this successful feat, she shifted her focus to a singing reality show, The Voice, where her friend and fellow US athlete, Simone Biles is working as a playoff advisor for Team Snoop.
Before the episode aired on November 25, 2024, the alpine skier extended her support to Biles with a star-eyed emoji.
Snoop Dogg invited the 11-time Olympic medalist as an advisor for his team, while Reba McEntire will welcome Lainey Wilson and Michael Buble will team up with Carly Pearce.
Shiffrin bonded with Biles in 2022, when the latter reached out to the alpine skier after she walked out of the 2022 Winter Olympics without a medal, citing mental health issues.
Having herself experienced the "twisties" at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, Biles offered encouragement to the 99-time World Cup winner, drawing on her own experiences with mental setbacks
"I saw the experience that Mikaela went through and I had just gone through that, so I didn't want her to feel alone and [I was] like, 'Hey, it's OK. This stuff happens. You're still amazing, who cares about the comments?'" she shared. (via Laureus Sports Instagram Live, 2023)
Biles recently concluded the second edition of the Gold Over America tour.
Mikaela Shiffrin met Simone Biles at the 2024 Paris Olympics
Simone Biles won three gold medals in the all-around, team, and vault events and a silver in the floor competition at the Paris Olympics earlier this year. Mikaela Shiffrin cheered her friend on from the sidelines, witnessing her athletic prowess firsthand.
She also met Biles for the first time and talked for a while, even though she was ready to settle for a 'hi' and 'congratulations'.
"I didn't know what to expect because obviously she was really busy in Paris right after her events, so I thought maybe we just say hi, a quick hug, congratulations," the alpine skier shared.
She continued:
"But we sat and talked for quite a while, and talking about everything. Of course, her experience in [Tokyo] and comparing our experiences with the Olympics, but also just competing and the expectations that people have when they anticipate you're going to win everything.."
Shiffrin then revealed how Simone Biles' laughs and giggles were contagious.
"So it was really cool, she's just like… she just loves to laugh, she just giggles and it's contagious. It was really amazing to meet her."
The 29-year-old will next take the giant slalom slopes at the Killington Ski Resort, Vermont on November 30, 2024.
