Mikaela Shiffrin recently reacted to Simone Biles' desire to be remembered in the sporting world not for her medals but for how she enjoyed gymnastics with all her heart. Biles is headed to the Paris Olympics as the gymnastic top seed, boasting a whopping 37 medals across the Worlds and Olympics.
Shiffrin, 29, concluded her 2023-24 Alpine Skiing World Cup season after extending her World Cup win medal tally to 97. On surpassing Ingemar Stenmark's 86-World Cup win mark, she clinched the top spot on the alpine skiing super rankings and became the winningest alpine skier of all time.
Shiffrin has always been supportive of Simone Biles' endeavors, much like the latter had her back after she walked out of the 2022 Beijing Olympics without a medal. While Mikaela Shiffrin tried to wrap her head around the situation, she was at the mouth of hateful comments. The situation was reminiscent of Biles' Tokyo Olympics stint, which saw her withdraw midway through the competition due to 'twisties'.
Simone Biles lifted Shiffrin's spirits at that time and reassured her of her talent, saying:
"Hey, it's OK. This stuff happens. You're still amazing, who cares about the comments?"
Now, as Biles surfaced on Today's X handle with how she wants to be remembered in her sport despite 'twisties' at the Tokyo Olympics, her long-time friend Mikaela Shiffrin reacted with a couple of heart emojis.
In the video, the gymnast talked about how she wished to leave her legacy as someone who enjoyed her sport.
"As long as I was having fun and doing what I love, then that’s all that you can do, because I don’t want to look back 50 years from now and be like, 'Wow, she was good, but she was so miserable," said she. (via Today)
In 2023, Mikaela Shiffrin and Biles sat in an Instagram live session with Laureus Sports to discuss mental struggles and perseverance in their sports.

Shiffrin kicked off training for the upcoming World Cup Alpine Skiing season in the Copper Mountains of Colorado. She will look to extend her World Cup medal tally to 100 in the 2024-25 season.
