Mikaela Shiffrin has revealed her choice between a beach and a mountain holiday during a Q and A session. The American skier underwent surgery earlier this month and is unsure of her return to the slopes this season.
Shiffrin was speaking to Refinery29 at her home in Colorado and was asked to pick between a beach and a mountain holiday. The Olympic champion, who has spent the majority of her life skiing in the mountains, instantly picked a beach vacation.
"Beach vacation only because I live at the mountains," she replied.
The 29-year-old also revealed that she preferred a braided hairstyle over free-flowing hair.
"I like a braid that's like a loose braid so it ends up kind of being messy and flowy," Mikaela Shiffrin said.
Shiffrin also revealed that she loved to have a hot chocolate after a race and called it her 'No.1 guilty pleasure'. However, it's a long road for the three-time Olympic medalist before she gets to race again after narrowly missing her 100th World Cup victory due to a crash in Killington on November 30.
Speaking in an interview with Skiracing.com about her return to the sport after undergoing surgery on December 12, she said:
“I think if all things had gone perfectly and all the drainage just came out, we were pretty sure the season would be possible. It just depends on how I improve over the next weeks and months. There’s not a lot of precedent for this injury in our sport."
Shiffrin suffered a deep puncture to her oblique muscle during her second GS run in Killington and underwent surgery to remove the fluid from the puncture.
Mikaela Shiffrin reveals her dream vacationing spot in the world
Speaking in an interview with the New York Times in December 2019, Mikaela Shiffrin revealed that the Island of Maui in Hawaii was her dream holiday destination and she often used to visit the place with her family.
"Definitely a beach vacation. Hawaii is my happy place. Our family trips were always to Maui where we biked, hiked, windsurfed, and just watched the sunset," she said
Later during the 2023 off-season, the 29-year-old was spotted in Maui with her fiance, Norwegian skier Aleksander Kilde, and the couple could be seen enjoying physical training with water sports.
Kilde, who announced the relationship with Shiffrin in May 2021, is out of the 2024/25 season due to a shoulder injury he sustained at the end of last season.
