Mikaela Shiffrin's fiance, Aleksander Kilde, recently reacted to a snippet of the 'Moving Right Along' episode which revolved around the former's harrowing crash in Killington and her journey back up. Shiffrin hasn't yet confirmed her return to the 2024/25 World Cup circuit but often posts updates about her recovery on social media.
Shiffrin, 29, was one wib away from her 100th World Cup when the crash happened. She was left with an abdominal puncture, which needed surgery later. Now in rehabilitation, the most decorated alpine skier announced the release of the second episode of season 3, 'I've Been Impaled' on YouTube soon.
The promo clip posted on her Instagram handle showed how over 20,000 spectators flocked to watch Shiffrin make history but the bid ended after she toppled over midway through the run and lay unmoved until ski patrol attended to her.
In the video, Kilde said:
"She didn't move, she was just laying there. She was not lifting her legs."
Shiffrin said the pain she felt resembled none of her previous pains.
"I've never felt that kind of pain before."
Kilde shared the promo in his Instagram story and lauded his fiance, captioning:
"Pure inspiration"
Shiffrin had already ruled out downhill events from the 2024/25 season since she suffered a crash in the Cortina downhill in the 2023/24 season. That setback gave her an MCL injury and even compelled her to miss 11 races, leading to a third-place finish overall.
Aleksander Kilde, who also suffered a downhill crash in the 2023/24 season, announced he would skip competing in the 2024/25 circuit.
Mikaela Shiffrin once shared the unconventional pre-race ritual that prepares her for the races
Mikaela Shiffrin, the winningest alpine skier in history, surpassed the legendary Ingemar Stenmark's 86-win mark in 2023 and extended her tally to 99 in 2024. She recently sat for an interview with Refinery29 to detail her unique pre-game routine of taking a 20-minute power nap to give a kick-start to her race day.
"Race day is a little bit of a hurry-up-and-wait situation, so if I can fit in a 20-minute power nap, literally anywhere normally it's on the floor of the hospitality tent that they put up for the athletes so it's not glamourous it's definitely not in the bed, but that's my meditative moment," she said. Shiffrin also has two Olympic gold medals, five World Cup overall titles, and a Laureus World Sports Award for Sportswoman of the Year nomination in her repertoire.
