Mikaela Shiffrin's fiancé, Aleksander Kilde, landed in Norway to spend Christmas with his family. After undergoing surgery to address a shoulder infection from the injury suffered at the 2023/24 Alpine Skiing World Cup season, Kilde reflected on a similar moment ten years ago.
Mikaela Shiffrin, the alpine skier with the most World Cup wins, has dated fellow skier Aleksander Kilde since 2021 and got engaged in April 2024. Fresh off their injuries in the 2023/24 World Cup season, the couple embarked on a healing journey, spending time with each other, vacationing, and attending events.
While Shiffrin geared up for the speed events at the 2024/25 World Cup season, Kilde sat out for his persistent health issues. However, the Norwegian couldn't miss out on family time during the holiday season, touching down in Norway for Christmas.
In his Instagram story, he shared a picture of the snow-capped valley during sunrise and captioned it:
"Home for Christmas"
He then posted a throwback picture of a similar setting when he visited home for Christmas ten years ago after suffering an injury.
"...been a minute, 10 years ago.. also injured let's not make it a habit," he captioned.
On December 7, 2024, Mikaela Shiffrin's husband excitedly announced that his doctor permitted him to ski. The video showed Kilde smoothly skiing downhill.
"Doc’s gave me permission to do some cruising, and trust me I’m soaking it in."
Another picture carousel featured the couple, Shiffrin and Kilde when the latter skied in Europe.
"With full batteries back to europe and yes, the ski boots felt pretty good."
Kilde earned 40 World Cup race podiums, of which 21 were gold.
Mikaela Shiffrin on building a future with her fiance Aleksander Kilde
Shiffrin and Kilde embarked on a new journey together as fiances and will soon tie the nuptial knot. In an exclusive with Oympics.com, the 29-year-old shared that she imagines a future filled with love alongside the Norwegian.
"With Alex I have this picture of like a future with love and family and, you know, being able to actually build something that I had when I was growing up. That's really something that's really, like, special to me.”
She further noted how Kilde's condition during rehabilitation gave him every reason to be angry but he was nice to everyone.
"When he wakes up from surgery and he's sick from the medication, and he has every reason to be angry and mean, he's still nice and he's still kind, and he's still thankful to everybody around him."
Mikaela Shiffrin suffered a crash at the 2024/25 World Cup season and recently underwent abdominal surgery. She missed out on the races because of her setback.
