Mikaela Shiffrin, the winningest skier of all-time, recently announced her return to racing after the horror crash she suffered in Killington last year, and her fiancé Alexander Kilde was quick to show his support for the American.
With 97 race wins in her bag, Shiffrin began her 2024-2025 World Cup primed to become the first skier in the history of the sport to win a 100 races. Her season got off to a slow start in Soelden, where she finished outside of the podium positions. However, she quickly bounced back, clinching wins at both the Levi and Gurgl races.
Shiffrin arrived at the Killington World Cup as a strong favorite to win her 100th race on her home ground. However, the American met with a major crash on her second run, which resulted in a puncture wound that has since kept her out of action.
On Friday, January 24, Shiffrin shared a video on Instagram announcing that she would make a return to the slopes at the Courchevel World Cup. Reposting this video on his stories, Alexander Kilde wrote,
“The definition of resilience.”
The Courchevel World Cup is scheduled for January 30, and features the slalom event.
Alexander Kilde on his relationship with Mikaela Shiffrin
Mikaela Shiffrin and Alexander Kilde began dating in 2020, and went public with their relationship the same year. The duo have been each other's biggest supporters ever since, and often show their love for each other in interviews and on social media.
Speaking to Olympics.com, Kilde said that they are having an ‘amazing' time together, saying,
“We're having an amazing time together and what I find really cool is that we can share experiences and have conversations about things I can't really have with anyone else. She has a lot of experience; I have some experience and we can make each other better.”
The Norwegian went on to add that the fact that both of them were skiers was simply an ‘added bonus’, explaining,
Also, you know, I like her as a person more than anything else. For me that she's a skier is just a bonus. I really enjoy spending time with her, and that's what I keep in mind. Anything else is just a bonus.”
Mikaela Shiffrin and Alexander Kilde got engaged in 2024. While Shiffrin will be in action on the slopes at the end of this month, Kilde is yet to return to racing after the crash he suffered in Wengen in January 2024.
