Mikaela Shiffrin, the most successful skier of all time, has just shared a major update about her recovery after the horror crash she suffered in Killington in December 2024. The American underwent surgery for a puncture wound she sustained in the accident but has finally returned to the slopes.
Shiffrin began her 2024-2025 World Cup season with 97 wins and was set to become the first skier to win 100 races. Her season got off to a shaky start in Austria, but she quickly recovered, winning the Levi and Gurgl World Cup stops with ease.
She then arrived in Killington, where she was heavily favored to achieve the 100-win milestone. However, she suffered a devastating crash while competing and was dealt with a puncture wound that required surgery.
Now, Mikaela Shiffrin has made a significant recovery after her surgery and recently shared a video of herself skiing on the snow. In the video, the skier can be seen doing some basic rehab exercises before heading to the slopes. Shiffrin labelled the session a success, saying,
“Was a successful on snow test. We did three runs. Nothing crazy, but that was so fun, yay!”
Mikaela Shiffrin celebrates the New Year and outlines her return to the World Cup circuit
Mikaela Shiffrin welcomed her New Year by sharing a video of herself working out in the gym, and celebrating her recovery. Taking to Instagram, she wrote that she would be spending long hours in the gym in the upcoming days, but there was still some time to go before she would be able to return to World Cup action.
“Happy New Year!!! Making progress over here. I can move and sweat and use my body which is so exciting! This next phase of recovery is all about getting my strength and conditioning back as much as possible while working within the limitations of my obliques. Long hours of gym/rehab time but it's coming along and I'm so happy with that. Hoping to work into some easy turns on snow in the next week or so.”
“There's a little ways to go before I'm ready to truly ski with intensity-from a pain and a fitness perspective-but I am psyched with where we're at now, kicking off 2025! And in the meantime, I'm loving watching the World Cup races! What have your favorite moments of the season been so far?”
The FIS World Cup skiing action is currently in full swing, but it looks unlikely that Mikaela Shiffrin will be participating in a race sometime soon. However, with the season set to run till March 27, fans will be curious to see if the American can return to action soon enough to win her 100th race this season itself.
