Pole vault champion Mondo Duplantis shared frames with his fiance Desire Inglander, fellow LSU alum Sha'Carri Richardson, and Olympian Vernon Norwood to ring in his 25th birthday at the LSU football game against Alabama. Duplantis and 21 other LSU Olympians were honored at Death Valley amid the football game, owing to their Olympic successes.
Mondo Duplantis soared to the world record mark of 6.25m and claimed the Olympic title in Paris, adding his second Olympic gold to his repertoire. He further broke the world record by reaching 6.26 m at the 2024 Silesia Diamond League. The 25-year-old lifted his fourth consecutive Diamond League trophy to end his 2024 track season.
Having made waves on the track, he graced the football field on November 9 to watch his former college team, LSU, go head-on with Alabama. He attended the event with fellow Olympian and LSU alums Vernon Norwood and Sha'Carri Richardson to receive the honor from LSU for their Olympic success. Duplantis' fiance Desire Inglander was also spotted posing for pictures on the field, as per the pole vaulter's Instagram post, with the caption:
"25"
Among the honorees were Sha'Carri Richardson, who won the 100m silver at the Paris Olympics, and Vernon Norwood, who won the gold as part of the 4x400m US relay team.
Joining them was Celaya-Hernandez, who represented Mexico and earned silver in the men's synchronized 3-meter springboard event.
Mondo Duplantis talked about how the Paris Olympic crowd was reminiscent of Death Valley when he competed in LSU
Duplantis enrolled at LSU in 2018 and made waves in the pole vault event, breaking indoor and outdoor collegiate records before he forwent his college eligibility to turn professional in 2019.
Despite only attending his alma mater for a year, Duplantis was reminded of the electric energy of the crowd during his pole vault performance at the Paris Olympics.
“It was so loud. It sounded like Death Valley, honestly. It helped me quite a bit honestly, since I’m used to those kinds of crowds at LSU … I was just trying to channel the energy of the crowd," he said in a post-race interview in Paris.
Since Duplantis and Richardson have been friends since the first day of college, they often cheer on each other. Recalling his time with the latter and how they manifested their dreams, he said:
"Everything just goes so fast because it feels like just yesterday we were teenagers, we were just kids and we were Freshmen in college and we were just doing Freshman in college things, just cutting up and being stupid." (via a conference after the Diamond League)
The double Olympian added:
"We also both had huge dreams and we knew that we could be in the situation that we are today but everything happened in the way that it has and we actually are doing what we always [hoped], manifesting what we could do.."
Mondo Duplantis recently got engaged to his long-time girlfriend Desire Inglander in the picturesque setting of The Hamptons.
