"My biggest adventure in 7th grade was having a boyfriend for one day" - When Simone Biles opened up about her first romantic relationship

Simone Biles once revealed that her first relationship occurred in seventh grade and lasted just one day. Despite her first relationship being short-lived, she is now happily married to Jonathan Owens, the football safety for the NFL team Chicago Bears.

In an excerpt from the book Courage to Soar: A Body in Motion, A Life in Balance, Biles talked about the time when she liked a boy named Dillon, with whom she had a relationship that lasted one day, stating:

“There was this one boy, Dillon, who sat behind me in social studies. He had long dark hair in a Justin Bieber kind of cut. I thought he was cute. He was always whispering and joking with me in class, so I suspected he might like me too. The other kids would ask, ‘Are you guys gonna date?’ and we’d always say no, because in seventh grade, you never admit to that.’”

However, there was an incident involving Biles and Dillon one day during class when Dillon asked her to be his girlfriend and Biles agreed. She further described her reaction to the incident with Dillon as she was confused about what happens when two people like each other.

“When I got to school the next morning, I didn’t know how to act. So many questions swirled in my head: Is Dillon really my boyfriend now? What does that mean? Should I go by his locker before class? What do kids do when they’re dating?” the 23-time World Championships gold medalist wondered.

Since she had no idea about how relationships worked and wanted to avoid looking foolish, Simone Biles told Dillon they weren't dating. She also noted that having a boyfriend for just one day was her biggest adventure in seventh grade, adding:

“I didn’t have the first clue, and I didn’t want to seem stupid, so when I saw Dillon in social studies later that day I called the whole thing off. ‘So, um, Dillon, we’re not dating,’ I said, trying to act all casual. He just shrugged, and that was that. You could say my biggest adventure in seventh grade was having a boyfriend for one day.”

Simone Biles and her now husband Jonathan Owens first met each other via a dating application, Raya, in March 2020. It was Biles who initially made the move as she texted Owens after finding him cute.

Shortly after their initial encounter, they began dating during the COVID-19 pandemic and took the opportunity to get to know each other while everything was shut down. After constantly displaying their love on social media platforms, Owens proposed to Biles on one knee on Valentine's Day in 2022.

In April 2023, Simone Biles and Owens got married after exchanging vows in a private courthouse wedding in Texas. A few weeks later, they married for the second time in a lavish wedding in the presence of family and close friends in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
