Riley Gaines recently criticized the NCAA for its failure to take action against the transgender player on the San Jose State University (SJSU) volleyball team. Several team players, including Brooke Slusser initiated a lawsuit against the University and the Mountain West Conference.
Slusser filed accusations against the transgender player Blaire Fleming of plotting harm against her. The court filings suggested that Fleming allegedly planned to have Slusser hit in the face by a volleyball during the match.
Adding to the records, another volleyball teammate Chandler Manusky highlighted the incident of plotting the incident in in early October, when the players were caught violating the rules, sneaking out of the team hotel the night before a match against Colorado State. Fleming set up Colorado State's Malaya Jones to spike Slusser in the face during both the team's faceoff on October 3, 2024.
Gaines, who has been a fierce protestor of transgender athletes competing in women's sports and has consistenly voiced her dissent over Title IX, a set of guidelines by NCAA aiming to promote gender equality in collegiate circuit, took a dig at the governing body. She called them a "corrupt, indefensible joke" for their lack of investigation towards Fleming's presence in the volleyball team.
"The @NCAA has yet to investigate a male player on a women's team that colluded with his opponents to harm his own female teammate," Gaines wrote.
"Read that again. The NCAA is a corrupt, indefensible joke," she added.
Riley Gaines backs San Jose State University volleyball team coach following her suspension
Riley Gaines voiced her support for San Jose State University volleyball team assistant coach Melissa Batie-Smoose after she was handed a suspension for inclusion of transgender player on women's team.
Batie-Smoose was suspended after submitting a Title IX complaint, where she accused the University of favoring Fleming. In a recent interview with Fox News, Gaines lauded the suspended coach.
"That's the message that's being sent loud and clear is 'do not oppose us, do not even dare question our motives or else we will get rid of you' and that's exactly what Melissa's gone through, thats exactly what San Jose State University's team has gone through and so I want to commend this brave girls, girls like Brooke and other teammates who have been willing to say this is unfair, it's unsafe, it's wrong," Gaines said.
Riley Gaines also praised the other teams for withdrawing from competing against the SJSU volleyball team.
