Stephen Nedoroscik dedicated his upcoming performance at Dancing With the Stars to Men's Gymnastics after expressing sadness about the decline of the sport in the United States of America. The American gymnast shed light on how the NCAA has been cutting men's gymnastics programs which ultimately has a profound impact on gymnasts as it is the only channel that helps them grow and aim for bigger aspirations like the Olympic Games.
Nedoroscik won the bronze medal in the men's team event and the pommel horse at the Paris Olympics. Right after the Games, he got the opportunity to be a part of the American TV Show 'Dancing With the Stars'. As he continued his performances in the show with his partner Rylee Arnold, Nedoroscik took the opportunity to dedicate his performance in the upcoming week to men's gymnastics.
The 25-year-old took to X to share a video highlighting the decline of the sport in the United States of America as well as expressed his desire to dedicate his performance to the entire men's gymnastics fraternity. Moreover, he urged to bring about a positive change and see the sport grow once again.
"This week I'm dedicating my dance to men's gymnastics. I chose men's gymnastics because it is a dying sport in the United States, especially with the NCAA being our biggest funneling system in the United States. Every single Olympic Team member was an NCAA gymnast," Stephen Nedoroscik said.
"The NCAA has been cutting programs basically every other year nowadays they are basically cutting scholarships so it is very important to me and all of my teammates and the entire men's gymnastics community in the United States that we continue to keep the NCAA programs alive and thriving and we want to see the sport grow. We just got our first team medal in 16 years which is extremely monumented to us and this is the time for men's gymnastics to grow in the country again," he added.
Stephen Nedoroscik slams the removal of Gymnastics scholarships
Ohio State University removed the scholarships for Men's gymnastics for the upcoming NCAA season. Stephen Nedoroscik took to X to slam the decision as well as urge for support especially after registering an incredible performance at the Paris Olympics.
"Ohio State removing athletic scholarships from Men’s Gymnastics. Yet again, another step backwards for MGYM. With the success of current and former NCAA gymnasts at the Olympics you’d think NCAA programs would be excited for the upcoming season, not stripping away opportunities," he wrote.
Furthermore, the Worcester native expressed that stripping away opportunities will have a profound impact on the sport among the masses as well as eventually lead to a decline soon.
