Nebraska volleyball's outside hitter Harper Murray posed in a causal mirror selfie with Saige Damrow amid the collegiate off-season. Damrow left the Wisconsin Badgers last month and signed with the Creighton Bluejays.
Murray shared the selfie on her Instagram stories on Saturday, January 18, as the pair wore half-matching black outfits. Murray, who struggled with mental health problems last year before being lifted up by her teammates, was all smiles with her fellow volleyball player, writing:
"Saige in lincoln."
The duo also posed in a group selfie with over a dozen other volleyball players, all in smiles.
Saige Damrow and Harper Murray are likely to share an intriguing battle in the upcoming season with a potential faceoff in the Big Ten Championships.
Damrow, who plays in the defense, missed nearly half of the matches due to an injury and averaged 2.24 digs per set in 19 matches while the outside hitter led Huskers in kills with 3.40 per set and contributed 2.43 digs per set.
Murray is also a two-time All-American and would be eager to win the NCAA title with the Huskers next year.
Harper Murray called her Nebraska Huskers' teammates the 'biggest gift of all time'
Harper Murray struggled with mental health issues at the start of the season, even facing a DUI arrest before rising back to lead the Nebraska Huskers to the NCAA Final Four. While the team lost in the semifinals against Penn State after taking a 2-0 lead, Murray reminisced about the journey and penned a heartfelt note for her teammates at the end of the season.
"I have never been more proud. This group of girls helped me find a smile that I thought was gone forever and I am so damn proud. Being surrounded by people who refuse to give up on you and stay by your side is the biggest gift of all time," Harper Murray wrote.
Reflecting on the season, the 18-year-old said she was proud of the team's growth and that she loved them with all of her heart.
"I love this team with all of my heart and am forever grateful for every memory we have together. Volleyball isnt about wins, losses, kills, stats...its about finding the positive and being proud of the growth we have made as people and to enjoy what we did together. gbr forever see u next year," she added.
While Murray was nearing her relentless best at the end of the season, she will share added responsibility in the upcoming season after Merrit Beason and Lexi Rodriguez bid farewell to the Huskers and turned professional.
