Lindsey Vonn has shared her thoughts as she gears up to compete in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen World Cup. The American athlete said she would enjoy competing on the global stage in her highly anticipated comeback season.
Vonn decided to come out of retirement nearly six years after bidding goodbye to the sport in 2019. The decision came after she had undergone a partial knee replacement surgery to find a permanent solution to the recurring issue. The former champion has made three World Cup appearances in her comeback season but has yet to achieve a podium finish.
However, Lindsey Vonn expressed that she was happy with the progress she had made and hoped to make steady improvements as the season progressed. Moreover, she stressed the importance of enjoying the process of competing rather than stressing about the results.
As she gears up to compete at the Garmisch-Partenkirchen World Cup, Vonn took to Instagram to share her thoughts, as she hoped to put forward a great performance on the slopes.
"Excited to be back in the starting gate of another race again tomorrow! Slowly figuring things out one day at a time and making progress. No matter what the result, I’m going to have fun! Let’s go 💪🏻🇺🇸 @usskiteam @teamusa" she wrote.
Lindsey Vonn on her decision to come out of retirement
Last month, Lindsey Vonn spoke about her decision to come out of retirement in a detailed Instagram post. The American athlete reflected on her journey right from the time she bid goodbye to the sport and revealed how she explored multiple avenues from building her foundation for underprivileged kids to exploring business ventures.
Moreover, the 40-year-old took time to reflect on her life as well as reconnect with herself over the years. Vonn revealed that the joy she got from skiing was unparalleled and came to the conclusion that she wanted to return to compete professionally once again.
"I took the time to connect with myself and reflect on my life, who I am and what I want to be. I am not just a skier. I am a strong woman who loves to ski. There is a big difference between the two. And even though I am very happy, there is still nothing like the joy I get from skiing 80mph. While that may seem crazy to some, it seems very normal to me," read an excerpt from her note.
Moreover, Vonn revealed that she would take the comeback journey as a challenge to rebuild herself.
