The pole vault phenom, Mondo Duplantis have kickstarted the 2024 Wanda Diamond League with a legendary win. On April 20, he made his 8th world record by attaining the height of 6.24m. Duplantis made his first performance in China memorable not just for himself but for the entire track and field world with his world record.
Mondo Duplantis added 1cm to the record that was set by him in Eugene last year. Sprinting sensation like Noah Lyles, Vernon Norwood, Athing Mu reacted to this stellar performance and record by the Swedish star.
Mondo Duplantis took to his Instagram account to share this commendable achievement. He shared a photo of him sitting by the screen displaying his world record numbers. The caption to this post carried,
"Lezgoooo!!!"
Under this post, the athletes hyped up Duplantis after his remarkable feat. Noah Lyles, the 3-peat World Champion left a comment emphasizing Duplantis' eighth world record stating,

"Another One!"
Along with Lyles, another track and field sprinter who added numbers to encourage Duplantis for his next world record was Vernon Norwood.

"630m soon!!"
Under Vernon's comment, another renowned American track athlete Athiing Mu raised the numbers predicted by Norwood and stated,
"No 7m."
Mondo Duplantis opens up about his World Record

The pole vault phenom revealed that Xiamen had everything exactly what he needed to make a good performance. Unaware of how the track was here in China, it was a great experience for the 24-year-old.
"For me to jump a world record I need everything to be in the right place. I'd never jumped here and I didn't know what kind of track it was, but obviously it was okay. Still winds, great energy from the crowd, pretty much everything added up to what I needed to jump high today."
When asked about his further plans of going higher this season after such a terrific start, Duplantis expressed that it is possible based on the conditions there is still caliber in him to reach even higher heights.
"It's definitely possible, conditions-willing. I'm going to try maximise the most od every day. There's definitely more to give. There's still some higher heights in me, for sure, as long as everything is in the right place."
Mondo Duplantis' first world record was in 2020 in Torun, Poland. He reached the height of 6.17m smashing a six-year-old record by Renaud Lavillenie. A week later on February 15, he increased his record by reaching 6.18m.
Following this, from 2022 to 2024, Mondo Duplantis proved his prowess by bringing in six more world records.
