Noah Lyles emerged as the fastest man in the 100m finals at the Paris Olympics 2024, beating hot favorite Jamaica's Krishane Thompson by a whisker of a second. Fans online were all hyped as the American won USA's first gold in the event since 2004.

Lyles finished second in both Round 1 and the 100m semifinals. He trailed behind Louis Hinchlife of Great Britain in Round 1 and failed to break the 10 second barrier. However, the 26-year-old clocked the second-fastest time of his career in the semifinals. Despite his strong performance, he was runner-up to Oblique Seville, who finished in 9.81 seconds.

Entering the finals, Jamaican duo Seville and Thompson were hot favorites. But as Lyles has demonstrated on numerous occasions, he came out on top when it mattered the most. The world champion beat Thompson in the last stride by five hundredths of a second to win his maiden Olympic gold medal.

Fans online were ecstatic as Noah Lyles prevailed in a stacked lineup. One fan playfully said that Lyles could enter the breakfast table sporting his gold medal, casually strolling past NBA players, who they argued were undeserving of the "world champions" title.

"Noah Lyles wearing his gold medal at Team USA breakfast in front of the NBA players," the fan wrote.

Several fans were in awe of the world champion's incredible run that saw him edge out the fastest sprinter of 2024 at the last stride.

Noah Lyles hasn't shied away from claiming that he was going to win the 100m Olympic gold medal. After clinching the world title in 9.83s last year, the 27-year-old knew he needed more speed for Olympic glory. He delivered, clocking a personal best of 9.79s.

After the thrilling finish, when everyone was in the dark about who had won and Lyles was declared the victor, the American turned to the camera to address his fans and triumphantly declared that he had predicted his victory.

"America! I told you! I got this", he yelled into the camera.

It was an incredible moment for Noah Lyles, given all the hype he has generated around himself. He stood up to the hype, and is now one step closer to winning four gold medals. He's the overwhelming favorite in the 200m and 4x100m relay, while the 4x400m relay remains uncertain. However, with potential success in the first three, he could earn a spot on that team as well.
