In a significant step in his personal life, American Olympic champion Noah Lyles got engaged to his Jamaican girlfriend Junelle Bromfield. The couple has been dating since 2022.
Lyles' relationship with Bromfield came under the scrutiny of Jamaican track and field fans when the former revealed that he gets exclusive information from the Jamaican camp via his now-fiance. This became a controversy and a few fans criticized Bromfield. However, Lyles stood by his partner throughout the controversy and defended her.
The couple took the next step in their relationship on Saturday, October 12, by announcing their engagement. In a joint Instagram post with Junelle Bromfield, Noah Lyles shared a video of the beautifully arranged proposal. The video begins with the camera zooming in on a giant heart made of pink roses with "Will You Marry Me" written on it along with large cutouts of the couple visible in the background.
The couple entered the hall hand-in-hand as "DO 4 LOVE" by Snoh Aalegra played in the background. Later in the video, Lyles, dressed in a black tuxedo, kneeled to ask Bromfield for her hand in marriage, who was wearing a shimmering silver gown. Towards the end of the clip, the couple shared a kiss and Bromfield proudly flaunted her ring, beaming.
"To My Future Wife I Will Love You Forever," Lyles captioned the video.
"I just want to say how incredibly proud I am of my GF" - Noah Lyles' sweet message to Junelle Bromfield
In a show of support for Bromfield amid the criticism she received following Lyles' comments about receiving information from her, the American sprinter penned a heartfelt note for his girlfriend. Lyles wrote on Instagram:
"I just want to say how incredibly proud I am of my GF and give her the flowers she deserves now. She has been through so much in her life that I could never imagine fighting through. Beyond that she is a survivor, 2x Olympian, Olympic medalists, Multi world championship medalist, and has been representing Jamaica on the world stage since she was 8 years old."
"But the most impressive thing I’ve seen recently is how she’s dealt with the pure disrespect and hatred towards her from her own country. This woman has been attacked by people who have never met her, heard her name before, never seen her smile, or heard what she believes in."
In response, Junelle Bromfield thanked Noah Lyles for being there for her since the beginning.
