Noah Lyles on the 2024 US Open winners being the 'World Champions'
Noah Lyles called the US Open winners 'World Champions', clarifying an earlier statement he made about the NBA players during the 2023 World Championships. Lyles was making waves around the internet after questioning the champions of the NBA finals, calling themselves 'World Champions.'
"You know the thing that hurts me the most is that I have to watch the NBA Finals and they have 'world champion' on their head," said Lyles. "World champion of what? The United States? Don't get me wrong, I love the U.S. at times, but that ain't the world...We are the world. We are the world. We have almost every country out here fighting, thriving, putting on their flag to show they are represented. There ain’t no flags in the NBA," Lyles had said.
While the 100m Olympic champion attended the US Open finals, he was asked to comment about the winners of the tournament, on which he said:
"These are World Champions. International players that play against the top in the world constantly, these are world champions," Lyles said.
Lyles now holds three Olympic medals, of which one is gold, which he won in the 100m dash at the 2024 Summer Games, and the other two are bronze medals he won in the 200m at the 2024 Paris and 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
