Noah Lyles has spoken about breaking Usain Bolt's long-standing world record to claim the title of the 'fastest man alive'. The American athlete issued a clarification on the ongoing discussion of the title of the 'Fastest Man Alive' and said the title belongs to the legendary sprinter Bolt, but that he holds the title of the 'Fastest Man in the World' which is usually the athlete who wins the sprint events in the Olympic Games.
The American athlete spoke about breaking the long-standing 200m world record in the latest episode of his podcast 'Beyond the Records':
"So I'm the World's Fastest Man. You get it with the title of being the Olympic Champion. Technically the fastest man alive is Usain Bolt.
I'm knocking on the door of the 200m. If it was that easy, I would have done that five years ago. But I'm the fastest American ever to live. I have the American record and so does Rai (Benjamin) as well, he has the American record in the 400m hurdles. So we are the fastest Americans that have ever lived in humanity. You know which is pretty cool as well. We are constantly getting closer and closer to you know, breaking world records." [8:26]
Lyles has been very vocal about his aim to break the world record ever since he ran the third-fastest 200m of all time with a performance of 19.31s at the World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon. Since then Lyles was unbeaten in the 200m which is his pet event up until the Paris Olympics where he finished third.
Usain Bolt on Noah Lyles' dominance in the circuit
Usain Bolt spoke about Noah Lyles' dominance in the circuit earlier this year (via Talk Sporting):
"He's good but he's not that good at the level, yet. I think he will get better over the years. So, the fact that he is winning now is crazy. One thing I respect about Lyles is his confidence. That's the thing he has over most of these athletes. Last year, he wasn't supposed to win the 100m, but he has the confidence that he's going to win. The others guys are going in there fearing him."
Furthermore, Bolt said that Lyles needs a little more polishing in his performance to become a strong contender to break his world record.
