Kenny Bednarek's girlfriend Sharmilla Nicolet hilariously trolled Noah Lyles following his loss in the 200m finals at the Paris Olympics. While the rivalry between the two American sprinters has seemingly been a healthy one, the pair have turned to trash-talking at times.
Bednarek and Lyles faced off for the first time at the 2020 Back to the Track event over 200m with the latter winning in 19.94s. They have faced 11 times over the 200m in their careers with Lyles boasting a big 9-2 lead.
The 100m Olympic champion holds a better head-to-head record against Bedarek over the 100m as well. Lyles won the 100m and 200m titles at the U.S. Olympic Trials, with Bednarek coming second in both events.
After the Oklahoma native failed to medal in the 100m Olympic finals, he broke down in tears in the arms of his coach and former Olympic champion Dennis Mitchell, as revealed in the Netflix docuseries Sprint'.
"I'm tired of losing,"he told Mitchell.
However, Bednarek managed to topple Lyles in the men's 200m final. Although he missed out on the gold medal, he won the silver in 19.62s while the freshly crowned 100m Olympic champion settled for bronze in 19.70s. Following his win, his girlfriend was enjoying the rare occasion of their win over Lyles and trolled the sprinter for his alleged trash-talking.
"I'm happy to beat Noah. I love Noah but he be trash talking my baby, so, Noah Lyles, sh!," she said while asking the sprinter in gestures to keep his mouth sealed.
Nicollet's remark was likely in reply to some of Lyles' previous claims where he had said that his competitors would be 'depressed' when he comes off the turn before the home stretch in a 200m race.
Sharmila Nicollet pens sweet words for Kenny Bednarek following Olympic success
Kenny Bednarek met his girlfriend Sharmilla Nicollet in 2020 and while the couple have relatively been private about their relationship, they went public in 2020 only. The American sprinter has credited the golfer for playing a vital role in his career, and following his silver medal victory at the Paris Olympics, his girlfriend Nicollet wrote a heartwarming praise for Bednarek.
"You’ve come a long way since I met you when you first turned pro in 2020. Your journey reminds me that greatness isn’t just about talent, but about heart, grit, and the courage to keep going even when the road gets tough. You didn’t just chase your dreams, you caught them," she wrote.
Kenny Bednarek acknowledged his girlfriend's sweet gesture, saying none of his success would have been possible without her. He finished his season at the Diamond League Finals and secured his second 200m title.
