The men’s 100m at the 2024 London Diamond League is expected to be a thrilling contest with Noah Lyles, Letsile Tebogo, Akani Simbine, and Zharnel Hughes all set to compete. As the final Diamond League meeting scheduled before the 2024 Paris Olympics, the London leg is set for a blockbuster show on Saturday, July 20.
The field for the men’s 100m includes world champion Noah Lyles, promising Botswana sprinter Letsile Tebogo, South African sensation Akani Simbine, and World Championships bronze medalist Zharnel Hughes from the Great Britain vying for gold at the London Diamond League leg before heading to the quadrennial games.
These top athletes will be joined by British sprinters Louie Hinchliffe and Jeremiah Azu, as well as Jamaica’s Ackeem Blake. All the athletes mentioned above have already qualified for the Olympics, and a victory at the London Diamond League in the 100m will add to their confidence going into Paris.
Among the top entries in the 100m at the London Diamond League, Noah Lyles has clocked the fastest time of the 2024 season with a 9.83s in the finals of the 2024 U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials, where he bagged the top position. This timing is also the fourth-quickest of the season.
Besides Lyles, Blake (9.92s), Simbine (9.94s), Hinchliffe (9.95s), Azu (9.97s) and Tebogo (9.99s) have also recorded times below the 10.00s mark this season. However, Hughes has not yet broken the 10.00-second barrier, having participated in only one 100m event at the Racers Grand Prix, where he finished fifth with a time of 10.09 seconds.
Based on present form, Noah Lyles certainly has a slight advantage over the other sprinters. However, the likes of Letsile Tebogo, Ackeem Blake, and Akani Simbine will also fancy their chances of pulling off an upset.
