Noah Lyles was dissed by Los Angeles Dodgers star Kike Hernandez following their MLB World Series win over the New York Yankees. Hernandez trolled the American sprinter over his controversial comments made last year but it resulted in the Puerto Rican outfielder facing flak back from some fans.

Lyles had argued last year at the 2023 World Championships that NBA champions shouldn't be called world champions since the league doesn't have teams from different countries.

"You know the thing that hurts me the most is that I have to watch the NBA Finals and they have "world champion" on their head," Lyles said. "World champion of what? The United States? Don't get me wrong. I love the U.S., at times, but that ain't the world. That is not the world," he said.

The 27-year-old has received continued criticism over his remarks over the last year, both from NBA fans and players and from the NFL and MLB as well. After Los Angeles Dodgers registered their second World Series win, Hernandez, who seemed in a celebratory mood, said:

"World Series champions. S**k it, Noah Lyles."

However, it didn't sit well with many fans, who argued that Lyles' was still right in saying Hernandez wasn't a world champion.

"Y'all having a hard time knowing the difference between a domestic tournament and a world tournament. Noah is still not wrong," a fan wrote.

Another fan stated that USA baseball had lost the World Baseball Classic to Japan in 2023, the equivalent of the World Championship.

"US baseball literally lost to Japan lol," they wrote.

One fan reminded Hernandez that Lyles shouldn't have been in his mind at such a big moment.

"Noah Lyles is on ya mind at a time like this? That man had yall pressed," they wrote.

Here are some more reactions:

"As a fellow puertorrican, I’m very happy for Kike. But, Noah Lyles’ remarks are still (and will always be) very true," a fan commented.
"Imagine playing 9 innings of highest level of competitive baseball and all you’re doing during the game is thinking of this. Pathetic," another fan said.
"I am a diehard Yankee fan in complete and utter heartbreak. And I just wanna say s**k it Noah Lyles. Dodgers are World Champs. Hilarious stray," a user commented.

Speaking in an interview with BuzzFeed in August 2024, Noah Lyles claimed that his controversial comments didn't have any effect on his relationship with the NBA players. He, however, added that he is happy they came to see him win gold at the Paris Olympics.

“I didn’t have a relationship with them then, and I guess I don’t have one now. They talk about me more than I talk about them. I’m very happy that they came to watch because I made a tweet or a post a while ago, and I was addressing people who love me and hate me, and I said, 'No matter what, you still watched, didn’t you?'" he said.

Lyles emerged victorious in a photo finish in the 100m final at the Paris Olympics, beating Jamaica's Kishane Thompson by five-thousandth of a second. He later tested positive for COVID-19 but managed to win a bronze medal in the 200m.
