The much-anticipated return of Olivia Dunne to the NCAA gymnastics circuit is finally here as the gymnast is all set to make her first appearance of the super senior year in her final season at LSU. Dunne had earlier announced her decision to return to LSU for her fifth year.
The LSU Tigers achieved a historic feat in the last season by lifting their first-ever NCAA Gymnastics Championships title. They achieved this feat by recording a notable score of 198.225 points, outpacing the California and Utha's women's gymnastics squads that scored 197.850 and 197.800 points, respectively.
Dunne's return adds to the excitement, as the team looks to defend their title and continue their winning streak. Although the Tigers will commence competing for the next season later, they will participate in the Gymnastics 101 Exhibition on Monday, December 16, 2024, at the Maravich Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Ahead of the event, the Tiger's super senior was seen expressing her excitement, further raising the anticipation. She shared a picture of herself performing a floor routine in the black, purple, and gold leotard and wrote:
"Tmr-> Pete Maravich Assembly Center," adding a smiling cat emoji.
Dunne will be joined by senior LSU gymnasts, including Chase Brock, Aleah Finnegan, KL Johnson, and others like Haleigh Bryant, Kaliya Lincoln, Zoe Miller, and Lexi Zeiss.
Olivia Dunne reflects on her role for the LSU Gymnastics team in the last season
Olivia Dunne recently opened up on her role at the LSU Gymnastics last year. Although the gymnast did not compete in all the meets, she stated that her role was to step in when needed.
She said that she was always ready to fill in for teammates in any event.
"Last year my role on the team was like to step up when I needed to," Dunne said. "I competed yeah I think 10 out of 13 meets and I mean honestly it's just hard on your body and I was there for the team whenever they needed it and if someone fell off that day I'd be there. I'd go in any position any spot on the floor or bars or beam like I'm ready for all of them." (22:00 onwards)
Dunne competed on the floor eight times for the Tigers last year, recording a career-high score of 9.900 points on the apparatus at the Podium Challenge.
