Olivia Dunne expressed her thoughts as teammate Aleah Finnegan continues to lead the Lady Tigers in the 2025 Gymnastics with impressive performances. LSU downed Florida Gators in a thrilling SEC opener on Friday night.
While Dunne only competed on the floor after being given rest as a precautionary measure by coach Jay Clark, Finnegan was yet again impressive on the all-around and scored 39.50 to tie for the win with Florida Junior Selena Harris. The Olympian shared her happiness over the victorious meet in an Instagram post and wrote:
"There’s just nothing like a Friday night in the PMAC💜"
Dunne, who scored 9.875 on the floor, showered her love on Finnegan in four words in the comment section, writing:
"You’re a ten,"
LSU posted 197.55 to win by a narrow one-tenth point with Gators' season best of 197.45 not being enough to defeat the reigning championships. The Lady Tigers won both the SEC and the NCAA Championships last year, and have kicked off their defense strong.
They opened the season with a landslide 197.300-194.100 victory against Iowa State at home, with Aleah Finnegan leading the scoring on all-around, 39.725. Dunne, meanwhile, scored 9.875 on the floor and 9.825 on the balance beam.
"This is probably the closest a team has been" - Olivia Dunne on LSU Gymnastics 2025 team
Speaking in a post-match interview after winning the season-opening game against Iowa State, Olivia Dunne was all praise for the strong bond between the Lady Tigers and said it was the closest a team had ever been. Dunne, who is in her fifth and final year with LSU, said [10:01 onwards]:
"I'm just so happy to be back to experience it one last time with my best friends and this is probably the closest a team has been or at least I feel I'm the closest to these freshmen and the group of girls and it's just going to be a blast going on the travel meets and competing with them this year."
The All-American gymnast also added that returning to LSU was the best decision she has ever made.
“The best way I can describe it is just complete joy. I had a blast and I feel like the decision to come back was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made," Olivia Dunne added. [2:56 onwards]
Although she didn't compete in the NCAA Finals last year, the 22-year-old played a crucial role in LSU's road to the national triumph and averaged 9.857 on the floor and 9.838 on uneven bars. She graduated with a bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary studies in December and now aims to close out the LSU chapter with another national title.
