Olivia Dunne is one of collegiate gymnastics' most well-known faces, having found fame across various social media platforms for sharing a behind-the-scenes look into her everyday life. The American will appear in her fifth season of the NCAA and recently posed in a purple LSU Tigers leotard ahead of the college's exhibition meet.
Dunne first signed with them in November of 2019, joining the team starting in 2020. Her collegiate career saw her put up multiple impressive performances, and the gymnast was crowned the NCAA champion in the team event in the 2023-2024 season when the Tigers stormed to the top of the podium for the first time in school history.
While Dunne completed four years of college earlier this year, she chose to accept her last remaining year of eligibility and compete for the LSU Tigers in the 2025 season. Now, as the team gears up for the upcoming season, Olivia Dunne shared a snap of herself on her Instagram story, dressed in a purple leotard ahead of the team's annual Gymnastics 101 exhibition meet. Olivia Dunne opens up about her decision to return to LSU
After the LSU Tigers’ victorious outing in 2024 at the NCAA Championships, fans were unsure if they would see Olivia Dunne in action for the team once again. On July 8, the gymnast announced that she was indeed returning for a fifth year. In a video on Instagram, she said,
“Alright, here we go. Dear LSU, these past four years have changed my life. There's something about putting on a purple and gold leotard. There's something about competing in front of 13,000 screaming Tiger fans. There's something about being pushed by your coaches to be your very best. And there's something about being part of a team that made school history. And no matter how many opportunities come my way off the mat, there's just something about LSU. That's why, I’m here to say, I’m not Dunne yet.”
Speaking about the reasons behind her return, Dunne explained that she wanted to prove herself as an individual athlete, saying (as quoted by ESPN),
"I really enjoyed the dynamic of the team this year and it all came together well. Winning the national championships was a great team accomplishment, but I feel like I have more to give as an individual competitor.”
Despite struggling with injuries this year, Olivia Dunne competed for the LSU Tigers nine times in the 2023-2024 season. She competed on the floor eight times, posting a career-high of 9.900. She also competed on the uneven bars twice, achieving a season-best of 9.875.
