Australian breakdancer, Rachael Gunn, colloquially known as Raygun has announced retirement from competitive breakdancing. This comes just a few months after she competed in the first ever Olympic breakdancing event in Paris.
However, Gunn's debut Games didn't go as planned due to all the online criticism she had to face after her performance in the competition. She concluded the Paris event with zero points and wins in her tally.
Moreover, some of her moves during her performance invited a lot of memes and trolls directed towards her. Amid this, Rachel Gunn has shed light on whether she would get back to competing in tournaments in the future.
In an interview during "The Jimmy and Nath Show", the 37-year-old revealed that she has no plans to compete at the next quadrennial event. She also mentioned that she aims to keep breakdancing. But the backlash she faced at the French capital has made competing difficult for her. She said:
"I still break but I don't compete. I am not going to compete anymore. I was going to keep competing for sure but that seems really difficult now to approach a battle. I'll still dance and I still break but that's like in my living room with my partner."
She further added:
"I think the level of scrutiny that's going to be there and you know people will be filming it and it'll go online and that's not going to mean the same thing."
Raygun opened up about the TV requests she received after competing at the 2024 Paris Olympics
Rachael Gunn aka Raygun also opened up about the offers she received from the television industry after the Paris Olympics.
In an interview with Nova Radio, she stated that even though there have been numerous offers from TV, she is not interested in taking that direction as of now. She said:
"There were a lot of reality TV requests. I think I've got a very memeable face, it's very expressive. I just feel like going on reality television is just not the right move."
Besides her breaking career, Raygun is also a highly educated individual with a doctorate in cultural studies. She has not only performed in this sport, but has also conducted various research on the gender dynamics in her sport.
