Quincy Hall has done what he was favored to do in the 400m final at the Paris Olympics 2024. The American runner clocked a blistering 43.40s to win his maiden Olympic gold while Britain’s Mathew Hudson-Smith settled for silver after leading most of the race.

Hall announced his arrival in the Olympic year with an impressive run of 44.17 at the U.S. Olympic Trials. He went on to run a new world lead at the Monaco Diamond League to head into the Olympic Games as the favorite.

The 24-year-old clocked 44.28 and 43.95 in the first two rounds at the Paris Olympics 2024. He started off nicely in the 400m final but was in the middle of the pack ahead of the last 100m. Hall caught up with Mathew Hudson-Smith in the last few meters, crossing the finish line 0.04s second ahead of the Brit.

Quincy Hall received massive praise online as he delivered an all-time great performance, making him the third-fastest American and fourth-fastest in history over the one-lap event.

"Quincy Hall with the kick of a lifetime. That was a strong finish. Wow," a fan wrote.
"That's one of the baddest comebacks in ANY sport I've ever witnessed. we actively saw Quincy Hall decide he wasn't losing and activated the turbo boost. that's a bad motherfu**er, right there," another fan wrote.
"Ohh I KNOW his thighs are burning and his butt is numb. This man fought for this one!," a fan commented.
"Adrenaline, the likes of which I've never seen before. It should not be possible to track down THREE world-class runners in the final 30m of a 400m race. INSANE," another fan commented.
"I love that you can visibly SEE the fight in him," a fan wrote.
"USA’s Quincy Hall GOT THAT DAWG IN HIM winning Olympic Gold in the 400m after running the 5TH FASTEST TIME IN 400m HISTORY of 43.40. That’s the 1st Gold medal in the event for the USA since 2008. Everything about his comeback was SOLID LIKE METAL GEAR," another fan commented.

Before the start of the 2024 season, Quincy Hall had a personal best of 44.37 in the 400m. He had clocked the time at last year's World Championship finals. A year later, he lowered his personal best by nearly a second, running 43.40s at the Paris Olympics 2024.

Hall broke his personal best first at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Trials, clocking 44.17 to finish first in the 400m final and qualify for the Paris Olympics. The 24-year-old ran 44.28 in the first round at the Olympic Games and then ran a blistering 43.95 in the semi-finals.

Hall was the heavy favorite to win the 400m title at the Paris Olympics, and so he did, stealing the win from Mathew Hudson-Smith at the last moment. With a time of 43.40s, Hall has improved his personal best by 0.97s.
