Retired American artistic gymnast Laurie Hernandez reminisced about her time with Simone Biles at the 2016 Rio Olympics, which involved a funny incident where they playfully teased their teammate Aly Raisman at the time. As she gears up to cheer the team from the bleachers, Hernandez stood for a quick interview with Access Hollywood.
When questioned about her time with Simone Biles at the 2016 Olympics, she said that Biles and she used to be roommates and their favorite pastime was to annoy Aly Raisman.
"What I remember the most, we (she and Simone) were roommates together, and we had a lot of giggles. Our favorite thing was to really like annoy Aly Raisman. Our whole team was there, but for some reason, just getting under her skin was the best." She said in the video posted by Access Hollywood on their YouTube Channel [3:13 Onwards]
The US roster that secured the gold medal in the team all-around event at the Rio Olympics consisted of Biles, Laurie Hernandez, Gabby Thomas, Madison Kocian, and Aly Raisman. They together beat the Russian Federation with a score of 184.897 to stand atop the podium.
The New Brunswick, New Jersey-based Hernandez bid adieu to her gymnastics career in 2021 after missing out on a spot in the Tokyo Olympics. However, she still supports the US gymnastics team at major competitions and is currently in the French capital as a gymnastics commentator for the Paris Olympics.
What Laurie Hernandez had to say about her new role at the Paris Olympics
Laurie Hernandez will be joining the gymnastics commentary panel at the Paris Olympics as an NBC correspondent and will be sharing her insights on women's gymnastics and teams' performances at the French Games.
Speaking about her new role with GPB, she said:
"Oh, I got a lot of butterflies, you know? It's the first Olympic Games that I have not trained for, but I'll still be going in as a commentator and with broadcast. So it's definitely a change of pace."
Laurie Hernandez added that she was glad that she could connect with the gymnastics community once again.
