Paris Diamond League 2024: Top athletes to watch out for ft. Mondo Duplantis, Valarie Allman

The 2024 Paris Diamond League, the eighth meeting of the Diamond League series, is scheduled for July 7, Sunday, at the Stade Charléty in Paris, France. The athletes will resume their Diamond League journeys after a brief hiatus, which was taken to allow various nations to conduct the Olympic trials for the Paris Olympics.

With this, let’s look at a few of the prominent athletes to watch out for at the 2024 Paris Diamond League.

Top athletes to watch out for at 2024 Paris Diamond League

#7 Alison dos Santos (400m Hurdles Men)

Alison dos Santos will look to continue his fine form at the Paris Diamond League, having won all the 400m hurdles events he competed in this season. So far, he has featured in three Diamond League legs: in Doha, Oslo, and Stockholm, emerging as the winner with times of 46.86s, 46.63s, and 47.01s.

#6 Yaroslava Mahuchikh (High Jump Women)

Tokyo Olympic bronze medalist Yaroslava Mahuchikh will be competing for the first time after claiming the European Athletics Championships in Rome. The high jumper will look to reign supreme at the Diamond League leg in the presence of a strong field comprising Nicola Olyslagers, Eleanor Patterson, and Nafi Thiam.

#5 Malaika Mihambo (Long Jump Women)

Malaika Mihambo is one of the prominent names participating in the 2024 Paris Diamond League. Mihambo holds the world-leading mark in the long jump, which she achieved during the European Athletics Championships with a 7.22m effort.

#4 Valarie Allman (Discus throw Women)

Valarie Allman is another athlete to look out for at the Diamond League leg in Paris after her impressive performance at the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials, as she achieved a 70.89m throw in the semis of the event. However, the reigning Olympic champion is expected to face a stiff challenge from Yaime Pérez, the current world leader with a 73.09m throw.

#3 Marileidy Paulino (400m Women)

Two-time Olympic silver medalist Marileidy Paulino is one of the top names set to feature at the Paris Diamond League.

However, the event won’t be an easy one for her as it includes a highly competitive lineup comprising world champions, European champions, and Diamond League champions and medalists including Salwa Eid Naser, Natalia Kaczmarek, Alexis Holmes, Lieke Klaver, and Laviai Nielsen.

#2 Faith Kipyegon (1500m Women)

Faith Kipyegon, one of the greatest athletes to grace the track, will be competing in her second 1500m event in 2024 after dominating the national trials with 3:53.98. The two-time Olympic champion will enter the event as a pre-race favorite.

Just like Kipyegon, Mondo Duplantis will set his foot at the Paris Diamond League as a pre-event favorite in the men’s pole vault. Duplantis has already set the world record in his season-opener with a clearance of 6.24m and will look to continue his dominance.
