Simone Biles' husband Jonathan Owens opened up on the backlash he faced for his 'catch' comment in 'The Pivot' podcast in 2023. He shared that he was with his mother and wife when the trolls erupted. However, he was not affected and talked about living life the way he wanted to.

Simone Biles recently won her ticket to the third consecutive Olympics of her career, finishing with an overall score of 117.225 at the 2024 US Olympic Trials. She will look to extend her gold medal tally and etch her name as the most decorated gymnast in history.

Her husband, Jonathan Owens, was present to hype his woman and celebrate her victory. But he continued to be at the mouth of fan backlash because of his 'catch' comment that left the internet abuzz in 2023. At 'The Pivot' podcast, when the then-Green Bay Packers safety was asked whether he was 'the catch' in the marital relationship, he replied:

"I always say that the men are the catch.”

He also shared that he didn't know who Simone Biles was since he was not a follower of gymnastics.

In a recent interview with US Magazine, he addressed the counteraction that filled his social media handles last year. But Owens remained unstirred and settled with the thought that people would speak no matter what, but that wouldn't stop him from living his life.

"I don’t mean to cuss, but like, damned if you do, damned if you don’t,” he said. “If you say something, they’re going to say something; if you don’t say something, they’re going to say something. So, just live your life. People are going to talk about you anyway, so you might as well do it the way you want to," he said.

Simone Biles on Jonathan Owens - "Truly, I’ve never met a man like him”

Simone Biles has silenced many social media users after 'The Pivot' podcast episode. But she distinctly talked about it on the 'Call Her Daddy' podcast, where she made an appearance in April 2024.

"I was in the room. … They even panned over to me with that viral moment, and I just rolled my eyes and laughed. He never said I wasn’t a catch. He said he was a catch. … He praises the ground that I walk on. Truly, I’ve never met a man like him," she said, clearing the confusion around the comment.

The couple kept themselves away from the negative impact as much as possible, focused on supporting each other and building a new home. Owens will look to cheer on Simone Biles at the 2024 Paris Olympics as well.
