Jordan Chiles' mother Gina Chiles has shared that the biggest blessing after her Paris Olympics bronze medal saga was the support her daughter received from several people. Chiles competed in the floor finals at the Olympics, where she won the bronze medal after her team's appeal. But CAS later ordered her to return the medal.
Chiles, who won the team silver at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, was named in the US gymnastics team for the 2024 Paris Games. The 23-year-old contributed scores on all four apparatuses to catapult the US team to the coveted team all-around gold. In the floor final, Chiles finished fifth behind Rebeca Andrade, Simone Biles, and Romania's Ana Barbosu and Sabrina Voinea.
Later, her team appealed to FIG for a score upgrade since one of her leaps was wrongly judged. The California native then earned the bronze, leaving Barbosu out of the podium, which prompted the Romanian Gymnastics Federation to appeal to CAS that the US team submitted the inquiry past the one-minute deadline. Following that, Chiles was ordered to return her bronze by CAS.
She received support from her fellow gymnasts like Simone Biles and Suni Lee, and also big names like Flavor Flav, who custom-made a bronze clock for Chiles. Her mother Gina Chiles stated that such a response amid the crisis was the best part of the healing journey, as per the “Got It From My Momma” podcast through a partnership with Sheppard Pratt.
"As a mom in general it is so hard to see your kids go through difficult times whether it's this and and Jordan has had several difficult moments in her career. It's very hard on your heart when you see the difficulty and you see negativity that is thrown out there." (9:32)
She continued:
"To see everyone kind of just support her, cheer for her, that's probably been the biggest healing part of of everything."
Jordan Chiles is currently on the Gold Over America tour, which will conclude next month in Detroit, Michigan.
