Three-time Olympic gold medalist Aly Raisman expressed her excitement to do commentary for the upcoming NCAA Women’s Gymnastics Championships, which is to be held from April 18 to 20, 2024, in Fort Worth. She has had a lot of things planned after retiring from gymnastics in January 2020.
During her career as a gymnast, Raisman led two American teams, the 'Final Five' and 'Fierce Five', as their captain. These teams achieved gold medals in the team events at two Olympic Games — the 2016 Rio Olympics and the 2012 London Olympics. Now, this accomplished athlete is transitioning into the commentary booth, bringing her vast experience to enhance the thrill for the audience.
In a previous pre-event with co-anchor John Roethlisberger, a three-time Olympian, Raisman talked about her preparedness as a commentator in the upcoming NCAA Women’s Gymnastics Championships.
Raisman opened up on her preparation for starting a new chapter in her life, saying (via Olympics.com):
“Preparation is really important, just like when I was competing or training, when I competed well, it was the preparation and just knowing that I did everything I could.”
Raisman continued about her new venture in the commentary world and shared her experience in her new profession, adding:
“I’m still working on it and learning, but I have really enjoyed the process.”
Raisman made her debut as a commentator earlier this season at Louisiana State University, where she partnered with American football quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.
“I’m trying to be kinder and less hard on myself” - Aly Raisman on releasing her first book
Aly Raisman has become an inspiration to many girls throughout the world after she came forward and talked about her experience of sexual abuse by a former USA gymnastics doctor.
Raisman also recently released her first children's book on April 2, 2024, that teaches kids about critical things like consent and body autonomy. When she was asked what she is proud of today, she revealed that she is proud of the courage to seek something new outside her gymnastics career.
The 29 years old said:
“My parents always used to tell me when I was younger that people will remember me for the kind of person I am, not what place I am on the podium, I never really understood that, but as I get farther away from my gymnastics career, I'm very grateful for it.”
Raisman is trying to keep herself occupied with new things post-retirement which includes gardening, listening to music, and watching series. She also listened to a podcast recently and some words in it made her ponder.
"It [the podcast] recalled: "How often do we take a photo of a beautiful sunset and the picture doesn't do it justice? Think about that the next time you see a photo of yourself and you don't like it, I’m going to keep that with me. I’m trying to be kinder and less hard on myself, which is easier said than done. But it’s a work in progress", Aly Raisman added.
Although Raisman is no longer a part of her Olympic team, she seems to have made a lot of retirement plans. And soon her fans will be able to catch a glimpse of her during the NCAA Women’s Gymnastics Championships.
