Rebeca Andrade appeared for the NFL game between Green pay Packers and Philadelphia Eagles in Sao Paulo, which also happens to be her hometown. Andrade added three Olympic medals at the Paris Olympics, including the floor gold against her US rival, Simone Biles.
Andrade posed a strong competition to the most decorated gymnast, Simone Biles, at the 2023 World Championships, finishing second behind Biles in the all-around competition.
At the 2024 Paris Olympics, Andrade clinched the silver medal in the all-around and vault and defeated Biles for gold in the floor exercise. Soon after, she appeared at the NFL game between the Green Bay Packers and the Philadelphia Eagles, scheduled in Andrade's hometown, Sao Paulo.
An NFL game is being held in South America for the first time as the league is prioritizing international markets to sustain growth. The current season of the NFL will travel to five international destinations in South America and Europe.
On the other hand, Biles' husband Jonathan Owens (who previously played for Green Bay Packers) will start his NFL season with the Chicago Bears on September 8, 2024. The Bears team will clash against the Tennessee Titans in the first game.
Rebeca Andrade received a bow of honor from Simone Biles at the Paris Olympics
Biles and her teammate Jordan Chiles (who was then upgraded to bronze before the ruling was overturned by CAS) bowed to Rebeca Andrade at the podium, after the Brazilian executed a stellar floor maneuver and bagged her first Olympic gold.
In a post-event conversation with "Today" on 6th August, Simone Biles explained the reason behind such sportsmanship.
"I think it's all about sportsmanship, and we don't care whether we win or lose. We're always going to keep a good face and support our competitors because they've worked just as hard as we have for that moment," Biles said.
"So you have to give them their flowers. And that's exactly what me and Jordan (Chiles) were doing, and we were so happy for her. She deserved it. She had the best floor routine of the day and in the Olympics. So it's like, yeah, she deserved it," she added.
In her recently released Netflix docu-series, Simone Biles Rising, Biles also shared that Rebeca Andrade 'scares her the most'.
