American Olympic gymnast Jade Carey was happy after winning two medals at the ongoing Paris Olympics. The gymnast also expressed her gratitude to her fans, who supported her throughout the event.
Carey was one of the members of the United States team, including Simone Biles, Suni Lee, Jordan Chiles, and Hezly Rivera, who won the Women's Artistic Team All-Around on Tuesday, July 30, after scoring 171.296. The American team defeated Italy and Brazil to reclaim the team title after eight years on the Olympic stage.
Following that, Carey participated in the vault finals on Saturday where she had a disappointing end at the Tokyo Olympics after tripping during the finals and losing the chance to win a medal. She redeemed herself in the Bercy Arena and secured a bronze after scoring 14.466.
Her teammate and the most decorated gymnast of all time, Simone Biles, took home the gold, while Rebeca Andrade of Brazil bagged the silver.
Celebrating her double medal win, Jade Carey took to her Instagram handle on Sunday and posted pictures from her Paris Olympics campaign. Summarizing her emotions, she wrote:
"Redemption tour complete, making this olympic team and bringing home a vault medal was such a big goal of mine. thank you to everyone for all of your love and support."
She added:
"This moment wouldn’t have been possible without you all. always trust the process and believe in the power of your dreams."
Jade Carey discusses making it to the podium despite battling illness at the Paris Olympics
Jade Carey fell ill when she reached the French capital for her second Olympic campaign. The 24-year-old was not feeling well during Team USA's podium training in July.
Speaking about which, she said (via Olympics.com):
"I started my week throwing up, so that was kind of hard because it just takes all your energy. You can’t eat, you feel like you just want to lay in bed, but I didn’t really have time to lay in bed. I, obviously, really wanted to compete."
Despite all the stewards she faced at the Paris Olympics, Carey still made it to the podium. She also revealed that her Tokyo Olympic vault finals acted as one of the motivators behind her medaling on Saturday. She said:
"I've been anticipating this day for a really long time, and it was one of my biggest motivators to get back here and be in the vault final."
Jade Carey further expressed that achieving her goal of executing two successful vault routines in the final and winning a medal was particularly meaningful to her.
