Regan Smith reacts to Lilly King's shoutout after jointly winning silver in mixed 4x100m relay at Short Course World Championships

American swimmer Regan Smith reacted to her counterpart Lilly King's recent post. This comes just after their silver medal finish in the Mixed 4x100m medley relay event of the 2024 Short Course World Championships.

The US team clocked a time of 3:30.55 to finish just behind the Neutral Athletes B team who finished in the pole position in 3:30.47. Smith played an integral part in the race after registering a clock time of 54.19 seconds in the first split of the race before King, Dare Rose and Jack Alexy took forward the proceedings.

This was an even faster split time compared to her 100m backstroke short course world record of 54.27 seconds. However, this time will not be included in the official record books as it was during a mixed medley relay event.

Just a few hours after this impressive performance, King took to her Instagram handle to share a picture of their Mixed 4x100m medley team with their respective silver medals. Additionally, King also gave a special mention to Smith for her unofficial world record-breaking performance during the relay. She wrote in the caption:

"Mixed relay madness🤯 Happy to add a silver for the most chaotic relay in the lineup! I think this may have been the first USA Swimming mixed relay to lead off with two females🤩 Also my cutie pookie pie @regansmith4 lead off in unofficial world record time."

Elated by this special mention, Regan Smith thanked her teammate and left a comment under the post. Smith remarked:

"Ur so sweet for the shoutout"

Regan Smith shattered 50m Backstroke World record during the 2024 Short Course World Championships

Regan Smith had an impressive outing on the third day 4 of the Short Course World Championships during the 50m Backstroke event. The 22-year-old clocked a time of 25.23 seconds in the final to register a new world record in this event.

This was 0.02 seconds faster than the previous world record (25.25 seconds) held by Canada's Maggie MacNeil. So far in this Short Course event, Smith has clinched two golds in the 50m and 100m Backstroke events, two silver in the 200m Butterfly and 4x100m Mixed Medley. Besides, she also won a bronze medal in the 4x50m Mixed relay.

Following these impressive performances, Smith took to her Instagram handle to share a few glimpses from the World Championships also also made a special mention of her 50m backstroke victory. She wrote:

The only event left for Regan Smith in the Championships is the 200m Backstroke event which is scheduled to be held on Sunday.
