Simone Biles walked home with the US Classic title hours ago but came under fan backlash, who didn't have good words to say about the gymnast's husband Jonathan Owens. The latter was present at the Hydration Core Classic but after getting back from the trip, Biles had to silence fans for crossing the limit with their criticisms.
Simone Biles has 37 medals across Worlds and the Olympics and recently added more to her gold purse. She is a four-time Olympic gold medalist and the most decorated gymnast in all-around standings. The 2024 US Hydration Core Classic was one of the three events en route to the Paris Olympics.
Headed home from Connecticut on a private jet, the couple spent a good time amid the clouds until some unpleasant comments from fans bothered them. Minutes after her loved-up Instagram story, Simone Biles dropped a story explaining how taking a jab at her husband and condemning her marital relationship with the Chicago Bears' NFL athlete was not okay.
Her story read:
"I'm going to quickly address this, the joke was never a joke! Y'all are blatantly being disrespectful to my relationship & my husband. So I'm gonna go ahead & say this one time. Respectfully, f**k off. & if you keep commenting or tweeting at me I'm just going to block you. simple as that. and no I don't need to touch grass or whatever tf y'all suggest...."
NBC Paralympics and Olympics posted a video of Owens cheering on Biles' stunning Yurchenko double pike vault landing. It was a special moment since he's not a regular in the gymnastics events. Under the video, several fans attempted to spoil the essence, dropping comments like - 'Who is Jonathan Owens?' and 'She is awesome, he is an absolute loser'.
Jonathan Owens chimed in to support Simone Biles' reason for snapping at fans
In response to Simone Biles' Instagram story which alerted fans to behave, Owens reshared to ask fans to back off if the posts of the athletic couple don't suit them.
His caption read:
"If yall gone support, support!!! If not respectfully keep scrolling. Cause being fake mad about people yall don't know from a can of paint is weirdo behavior"
In The Pivot podcast from last year, Owens said that he didn't know Biles initially. In a Vanity Fair outlet cover story on Biles, he solidified his claim of not having a clue about Biles' position until they talked for a while on the dating app Raya. That statement had sparked controversy as well.
