Riley Gaines has slammed Imane Khelif as the Algerian boxer is reportedly set to denounce people who called her a male. The former Kentucky swimmer has heavily condemned Khelif's participation in the women's category at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where she won the gold medal in the 66k welterweight division.
An X user, Radio Genoa, with over 1 million followers recently claimed that Khelif had vowed to take action against people who called her a male, an accusation she has repeatedly denied since her infamous opening bout against Angela Carini in Paris.
"Imane Khelif says she will denounce those who said she is a man," the user wrote.
Riley Gaines, a 12-time All-American swimmer who advocates for a ban on non-female athletes competing in women's sports, cited last month's unverified reports while reacting to the news.
"His medical record literally shows he just has a micropenis but okay lol," she wrote.
The report appeared in the French magazine Le Correspondent last month and claimed to show a leaked medical report of the Algerian. The document suggested that Khelif suffered from the Difference of Sexual Development and had 'micropenis and XY chromosomes."
While both the International Olympic Committee and the Algerian Boxing Federation termed the reports baseless and claimed their origin couldn't be verified, the document was widely shared on social media including by Riley Gaines, who wrote:
"Remember the man who won an Olympic gold medal in women’s boxing? His medical reports show he has XY chromosomes, male testosterone levels, testicles, & a micropenis. But that never mattered—they believe that words & feelings make you woman, not biology."
According to the IOC, the Olympic champion is "preparing a lawsuit" in response to the leaked report. The 25-year-old is already taking legal action against people who called her a 'male' during the Olympic Games including J.K. Rowling and Elon Musk.
Riley Gaines reacts to Imane Khelif winning the gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics
Imane Khelif was seeded fifth in the women's welterweight division at the 2024 Paris Olympics. After receiving a bye into the second round, she defeated Angela Carini in 46 seconds as the Italian withdrew from the fight. She then beat Hungary's Luca Hámori and Thailand's Janjaem Suwannapheng to reach the final, where she won the gold medal against Yang Liu of China.
Riley Gaines was furious over the 25-year-old's victory and claimed that it was an 'ultimate betrayal' to women by the IOC.
"BREAKING: Imane Khelif (XY) dominated World Champion Lang Liu (XX) to win an Olympic gold medal. Let me repeat that: a MALE has taken a WOMAN'S Olympic gold. This is what they call this "progress." It's the ultimate betrayal of fairness, safety, and women by @iocmedia," Gaines wrote.
However, Khelif maintained her stance after the final and reiterated that she had been a female her whole life.
"I was born a woman. I have lived as a woman. I competed as a woman - there is no doubt about that," she said (via BBC).
With her win, the 25-year-old became Algeria's first female gold medalist in boxing. It also marked the country's first Olympic gold medal in boxing since the 1996 Games.
