The second day of the Paris Olympics 2024 saw the USA Rugby Sevens team finally win their first game of the tournament. They faced Uruguay on July 25 and emerged triumphant after scoring 33 to Uruguay’s 17 to advance to the next round of the tournament.
The USA Rugby Sevens team drew their opening game of the tournament against the hosts France on July 12 with both teams scoring 12 points each. They then faced powerhouse Fiji and faced a massive defeat, only managing to score 12 to Fiji's 38.
It looked like the Americans were on their way out of the tournament until they put up a dominant display against Uruguay. With that victory, the USA jumped to third place in Pool C, having earned six points.
While the top two teams from each group automatically qualify for the quarterfinals, the two best 3rd place finishers from the three pools also advance to the next round. With six points, the USA Rugby Sevens Team was easily the best third-place finisher from the three groups as none of the other two third-place finishers earned six points.

Who will the USA Rugby Sevens Team face in the quarterfinals at the Paris Olympics 2024?
The USA Rugby Sevens team will face Australia in the quarterfinals at the Paris Olympics 2024. Australia are undefeated so far, having won all three of their matches against Argentina, Samoa, and Kenya. They will be the favorites but the USA Rugby Sevens team will certainly put up a fight.
USA forward Aaron Cummings claimed that they hadn't shown their full potential yet at the Paris Olympics, and that could mean they can challenge the Australians to keep their medal hopes alive.
“If you can get a score or pull down a score during those two minutes, then you’ll probably be in a good spot to win the game. Even the first game against France, we didn't really get to show who we were either. It was all about the fight and defense. We just know we got to get the ball, score and protect it, and just keep it," he said (via NBC).
