Gabby Thomas reacts after participating in Alexis Ohanian’s Athlos NYC
Following her participation at the Athlos NYC launched by Serena Williams' husband Alexis Ohanian, Gabby Thomas spoke on the massive turnout for the event. Notably, the event attracted a large number of audience with a packed crowd at Icahn Stadium and 3 million viewers across streaming platforms. Thomas reacted to the huge turnout, stating (0.04 onwards):
“It's a really incredible feeling. It has been a long time coming and it's pretty incredible to see it come to fruition and this is just a great celebration of all the hard work you put in this season. All the work that's been done to support and best of women's sports. This is really showcasing."
She added:
“I think it's really important. I mean it shows what's possible, it shows what we can do, shows how fun it can be to show up and support. Track meets should be about this. They should be about having fun, celebrating what we can do, women showing up to the line, and then just competing, right. This is just such a great event and yeah, I think we can continue. We can do this right. This is something that can continue and we can do it next year and the year after that.”
Thomas came second in the meet with a 22.21s at the inaugural edition of the track meet, behind compatriot Brittany Brown (22.18s).
