Alexis Ohanian is currently involved in an internet feud with an online troll. Their battle of words began after the critic implied that the Reddit co-founder had lost Gabby Thomas to Michael Johnson’s Grand Slam Track.

Ohanian, married to tennis star Serena Williams, first got involved in the world of track and field when he announced the launch of his women-only track meet ‘Athlos’. The event drew major support from three-time Olympic champion Thomas, who became the face of the meet.

Right on the heels of the 41-year-old announcing the launch of Athlos, sprinting legend Michael Johnson introduced his track league ‘Grand Slam Track'. GST announced the signing of Thomas, leading to an X user writing,

“Alexis Ohanian how you let the opps that you hate so much sign the face of your track meet💀💔.”

To this, Ohanian replied:

“I'm so happy for all the people who have followed Athlos and started investing in the sport! Gabby Thomas deserves everything and more. Weird behavior from you to think anyone would "own" an athlete tbh.”

Commenting on this back-and-forth between Ohanian and the troll, a track and field fan account wrote,

“This Erin and Alexis beef tho.”

To this, Ohanian delivered a biting response, and wrote,

“Let the dude clout chase.”

Since Michael Johnson announced the launch of Grand Slam Track, Alexis Ohanian has seemingly had mixed feelings about the league and their policies.

While he initially showed enthusiasm for the event, he later criticized their policy requiring GST athletes to get permission before participating in other competitions, writing on X,

“Hey Michael Johnson, I loved seeing you + Bill Ackman fast follow ATHLOS by launching Grand Slam Track (great to see more people investing in athletics!), but it's disappointing you're requiring these women to get permission from you & Bill in order to compete in other leagues. It's not very athlete-friendly.”
“You're an Olympic legend and I hope you'll reconsider. It's so much better for the sport to give these women more options and not fewer — especially while it's still so under-invested-in,” he added.

However, that all seems to be water under the bridge as Ohanian recently praised GST’s marketing of their event, writing,

"Speed Festivals fusing racing and culture" -- I love this new framing for GST. Congrats and I'm looking forward to watching.”

Alexis Ohanian’s Athlos took place in September in New York and was a major success. The meet featured many top sprinters and hurdlers, and Ohanian has shared plans to host the competition again in the near future.
