Serena Williams' husband and Athlos founder Alexis Ohanian reacted to Masai Russell buying her new house. This comes just a few weeks after the 100m hurdler started her preparations for the 2024 season.
Russell who won numerous track events this year also bagged a handful of prize money including the 60,000 USD she earned for winning Olympic gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics. She also signed a sponsorship deal with NIKE earlier this year, making her season a financially profitable one.
Amid this, Russell extended her off-track investment and bought a new house. The Washington native announced this via her X (formerly Twitter) handle. She wrote:
"Homeowner at 24🤝🏽 God is so good!"
Ohanian reacted to this post and congratulated the 100m hurdler and called her a deserving candidate for this success.
"Congrats! Well earned," the Athlos founder wrote.
Masai Russell took part in Alexis Ohanian's Athlos NYC 2024 meet in the Icahn Stadium. She ran her specialization, the 100m hurdles race in the event, and secured a third-place finish.
Masai Russell opens up about the impact that Alexis Ohanian and his track endeavor have had on the discipline of track and field
Masai Russell opened up about the contribution of Alexis Ohanian and his Athlos NYC 2024 to track and field.
In a recent interview, Russell stated that Ohanian's mindset behind forming the track meet was solely because he wanted to cater track to the world. Russell also mentioned that Ohanian wanted to allow the track and field stars to have the limelight apart from just the Olympic Games. She said (via Athlos):
"Track and field is one of the most watched during the Olympics but throughout the four years it's like no one else knows what's going on. So I think that for Alexis, he just understood that there's something that can be done for us that can be shown to the world, essentially."
During the interview, Masai Russell also remarked that Ohanian's Athlos helped the fans realize that track and field is also in the run even after a global event like the Olympics.
Besides the Athlos track meet, Masai Russell has also struck a deal with the Grand Slam Track League, a brainchild of Michael Johnson. She will compete in all the events of this league and is set to hit the track in 2025.
