Sha'Carri Richardson has been nominated alongside the top sportswomen of the world for the 2024 BET Awards. Her dominance on the track is set to be potentially reaffirmed by the prestigious recognition.

The American athlete bagged the distinguished collegiate track accolade, the Bowerman Award, in 2019 as an exceptionally performing member of the LSU track and field team. Richardson continued her impressive displays as she stepped into the professional track and field circuit after her NCAA collegiate eligibility ended.

Her nomination for the BET Awards comes after her perfect execution on the track during the 2023 World Championships in Budapest where she won the gold medal in the 100m sprint, clocking in at 10.65 seconds. She also won gold in the 4x100m relay.

Sha'Carri Richardson has been nominated alongside some of the top women athletes across all sports. The nominees for the BET Sportswoman of the Year Award 2024 are as follows (in no particular order):

Sha'Carri Richardson was bestowed with the 2023 USATF Athlete of the Year award for her incredible performance throughout the year. The American athlete was grateful for the recognition from the national governing body of track and field athletics, especially after having overcome several odds in her early professional career.

“I understand the influence that I have, I understand the responsibility that I have to USATF and as a top female USA athlete, and to my country, and to my black family, to my beautiful women, to everybody that has been misunderstood for trying to be their best selves and not be put into a category because they do track and field and have been put in a bubble," Richardson said.

Moreover, as a part of her victory speech, Richardson opened up on facing adversity and eventually achieving a fruitful outcome after persevering for a long time.

“With the God that I serve, everything happens when it’s supposed to happen. So when I stand here today as the world champion, that’s because now was the time for that to happen. Now is the most impactful it would be, the most powerful it would be, and the most sincere it would be," she added.

Sha'Carri Richardson is now gearing up to compete in the 2024 Olympics trials in June as she eyes her debut in Paris.
