Julien Alfred and Sha'Carri Richardson have dominated the 2024 season in the 100m, together clocking seven of the year’s top 10 fastest times in the discipline. Notably, the sprinters won Olympic gold and silver, respectively, in the 100m at the 2024 Paris Games.

The fastest time this season was achieved by American sprint star Sha'Carri Richardson, who clocked 10.71s in the finals of the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials. Just behind her time was Julien Alfred's. The St. Lucian delivered a historic performance at the Paris Olympics with a time of 10.72s, earning her country's first-ever Olympic gold medal.

Alfred also registered the fourth, at 10.78s, eighth, at 10.84s, and tenth, at 10.85s, fastest times of the season. She ran these times at the Racers Grand Prix, the Paris Olympics semifinals, and the Monaco Diamond League, respectively. Besides her sensational display at the Olympic trials, Sha'Carri Richardson achieved two more blistering times which placed her inside the top 10 in 2024. Her times of 10.83s at the Prefontaine Classic and 10.84s at the Zurich Diamond League ranked as the sixth and ninth-fastest timings, respectively.

In addition to Richardson and Alfred, collegiate sprinter Jacious Sears, Olympic bronze medalist Melissa Jefferson, and Jamaican prominent figure Shericka Jackson clocked the third, at 10.77s, fifth, at 10.80s, and seventh, at 10.84s, quickest times this season, respectively.

Julien Alfred opened up on her perspective about on-track rivalries and off-track relations. In an interview with Sky News, Alfred explained that while the rivalry may look intense during competitions, they often maintain friendly conversations off the track, saying,

“Whenever I see my competitors, I do say hi to them or like on Instagram like somebody put a picture, I'll respond to them the same vice versa um we'll have a quick chat in our DMS as well. So, I think what people see on the track such as us being rivals, outside of the track people can be very nice as well” (6:04).

Speaking about Sha'Carri Richardson, Alfred said she has been "sweet" to her, saying,

“Sha'Carri is a very sweet person to me and I don't have any issues with her.”
