Sha'Carri Richardson snapped back at a reporter during a post-race press interview after her Round-1 race in the 100m at the Paris Olympics on being questioned about being a changed person after the Tokyo Olympics. The American athlete emphasized that the interest ought to be focussed on the present rather than bringing up instances from the past.

Richardson was asked about how she felt about competing on the global stage being a "changed person." The American athlete's expression seemingly changed after the question and she said:

"Standing here, while we talk about the current day, today, here in Paris, it is a phenomenal feeling, we're not talking about the past. We're talking about what is happening right now," she said.

Fans on X reacted to a clip of Richardson's statements. Some fans felt that it was right for her to react in the manner whereas some felt that the question asked by the reporter did not mean any harm.

"I get it’s a touchy subject but I don’t think the interviewer meant any harm, she basically was saying 'after all that and now you’re here, how do you feel?' Sha’carri needs media training 'cause it was all over her face," one said.
"Why is this interviewer asking Sha’Carri about 2021 Tokyo… I’ll be pissed too," another said.
"Yeah she learned nothing. I know it’s a sore spot for her but it’s a fair question tbh," a third fan said.

Here are some more fan reactions.

"And THIS is exactly why i said y’all need to stop bringing 2021 up every time Sha’carri accomplishes something in the sport. She’s made it clear that she wants to focus on the present… bringing up her past for the sake of hit tweets doesn’t do anything for her," one said.
"What’s interesting about this video is that the interviewer only referenced Tokyo, she didn’t ask her about Tokyo. The question was basically “after all that happened with Tokyo, how do you feel to be on the big stage now?"" another said.
"As she should. Because we not talking about the past," a fan said.

The American athlete said that her confidence is at its peak while competing in major events and is complemented by her nervousness. However, she steps on track with a firm belief in the work that she has put in during training sessions.

"Honestly, I feel most confident on the track when I'm the most nervous. That may be backward, but I feel confident in relying on the training I've been doing and the way I've prepared myself day-by-day," she said.

Richardson will be competing in the women's 100m semifinals on August 3, 2024 at 1:50 p.m. ET.
