Sha'Carri Richardson couldn't be more hyped about Mondo Duplantis getting the better of Karsten Warholm in the duo's 100m clash at the Zurich Diamond League. Near the end of the race, Duplantis emulated the sprinter's famous finish line look, staring down his Norwegian opponent, which impressed both fans and Richardson.
This rivalry between Mondo Duplantis and Karsten Warholm has been in the making for quite some time now, and Richardson got pulled into the whole ordeal when the Swede asked for her help in getting his start right ahead of his 100m showdown.
The two have been close friends since their collegiate careers, having joined the LSU track and field team together. When it was officially announced that Duplantis and Warholm would be racing each other at the Zurich Diamond League, the pole vaulter asked his former teammate for help, writing on X,
“Imma need Vernon Norwood, Dennis Shaver, and Sha'Carri Richardson to tap in to get me right in these blocks🫡.”
On the day of the race, Richardson was right by Duplantis' side to cheer for him, as part of his walkout team that also included Fred Kerley, Letsile Tebogo, Vernon Norwood, and Renaud Lavillenie.
The reigning Olympic and World Champion lived up to the hype, getting off to an extraordinary start and leading from gun to tape to finish ahead of Warholm with a personal best of 10.37s. Duplantis even managed to look over and stare down his opponent before the finish line, a look that has become a trademark for Sha'Carri Richardson.
Reacting to this, the American shared a post comparing the duo's finish line looks, and captioned it,
“That look over and BACK is all Mondo.”
Sha'Carri Richardson to make highly anticipated comeback at the Zurich Diamond League
Sha'Carri Richardson had a strong outing at the Paris Olympics but missed out on gold in the 100m as Saint Lucia's Julien Alfred outdid her at the finish line. While the American managed to redeem herself when she anchored Team USA to a gold in the 4x100m relay, she hasn't been seen on the track since.
Now, Richardson is finally making her highly anticipated return to the track, and a showdown between her and Olympic champion Alfred is on the cards. The two sprinters will be in action at 11:56 PM local time on Thursday, September 5 at the Letzigrund Stadium. Fans in America can catch the showdown live on NBC Sports.
