100m Paris Olympics silver medalist Sha'Carri Richardson had a wholesome reaction to Swedish-American pole vaulter Armand 'Mondo' Duplantis winning the gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics while breaking his own world record.
Richardson was participating in her maiden Olympic Games in Paris, while Duplantis aimed to defend his pole vault title in the second Summer Games event of his career. On Sunday, August 3, the 23-year-old sprinter secured a silver in the 100m event after placing second with a time of 10.87 seconds. She was bested by Julien Alfred of St. Lucia, who bagged the gold after crossing the finish line in 10.72 seconds, while Melissa Jefferson of the United States took home bronze with a time of 10.92 seconds.
In contrast, Mondo Duplantis, 24, successfully defended his Olympic title with a clearance of 6.25 meters; he outperformed Sam Kendricks, who took second place on the podium with 5.95 meters, and Emmanouil Karalis of Greece, who finished third to secure bronze with a 5.90 finish. Notably, Duplantis' 6.25 jump was a new world record in pole vault; he beat his own WR mark of 6.24 meters that he set during the Xiamen Diamond League this year in April. The feat marked the ninth time the Swede has shattered the pole vault world record.
His Paris Olympics triumph was celebrated all over the world, with fans and fellow athletes congratulating the two-time Olympic champion in their own ways. Among them was Sha'Carri Richardson, who took to her Instagram stories to share a post of Duplantis sitting beside the world record display screen. She wrote:

"He’s one of my favourite people in life" - Sha'Carri Richardson on her bond with Mondo Duplantis
Sha'Carri Richardson and Mondo Duplantis have been friends ever since their collegiate days at Louisiana State University (LSU), where the two joined the facility as freshmen and became NCAA champions later in the time. Richardson, during the 203 World Athletics Championships, said that the 24-year-old Swede is one of her best friends.
"Oh yes, I saw my Mondo!. He’s one of my favourite people in life," she said, as quoted by Olympics.com.
Their friendship is mutual, as Duplantis also expressed his admiration for his Dallas, Texas, native friend, stating (via Olympics.com):
"I'm so proud of her. It's such a weird thing to think where we were then, not even just as athletes, [but] as people, too. And then to see where we are now, it's super special."
He further added that both of them had big dreams during their college days and had manifested their athletic success together.
