Gudaf Tsegay has been entered in the 1500m, 5000m, and 10,000m in Team Ethiopia’s team to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The Ethiopian, who is the world-record holder in 5000m, will be looking to make history in Paris by attempting the triple victory over the distances, a feat that has yet to be achieved by any female athlete.
Dutch woman Sifan Hassan attempted that at the delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. She claimed top honours in the 5000m and 10,000m but fell short in the 1500m where she finished third.
Nonetheless, Hassan's efforts placed her among the most impeccable athletes, and as Gudaf Tsegay toes the line on the purple track in Paris, she will have her eyes on victory.
Fans had a mixed reaction to Tsegay's ambitions in Paris, with one likening them to Jesse Owens and Carl Lewis, both of whom won golds in both sprinting and jump events.
"That's Jesse Owens/Carl Lewis level stuff there. Wow," the fan stated.
One fan called the Ethiopian a rockstar
"What a Rockstar!!" the fan
"Good for her! What a legend," a fan said.
"I can’t wait to see this," one fan penned.
However, there were also some fans who believed that Gudaf Tsegay was overdoing it.
"Looking at the quality in these races, she may end up with no medal," another fan wrote.
"That's too ambitious. At least 2 events make sense," a fan chimed in.
"That is going to make her miss the Gold in all the events. Especially if 5000m comes before the 10000m," another penned.
Gudaf Tsegay ready to add an Olympic gold medal to her trophy cabinet at Paris Olympic Games

Gudaf Tsegay expressed interest in winning an Olympic gold medal, a feat she has yet to achieve in her years as a professional athlete.
The world 10,000m champion has been confirmed for the 1500m, 5000m, and 10,000m and she intends to hopefully walk away with a gold medal in one of the events.
Gudaf Tsegay made her Olympic Games debut at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, finishing fourth in the 800m heats, and was unfortunately knocked out of the semifinal.
She then competed at the delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games where she won a bronze medal in the 5000m and she believes it is time for an upgrade.
"I am an indoor champion, I am a world champion, but when it comes to the Olympics, I am a medallist, not a champion. So I want to become one. I believe I can achieve my goal," she told Olympics.com.
As she gears up for the challenge of winning a gold medal, Tsegay has been off to a great start to her season, winning the 1500m at the Diamond League Meeting in Xiamen in 3:50.30.
Gudaf Tsegay also attempted to break the 10,000m world record at the Prefontaine Classic, the Diamond League Meeting in Eugene but it was Kenya’s Beatrice Chebet who outsmarted her to carry the day. Tsegay finished second with a personal best time of 29:05.92.
Focus now shifts to the Paris Olympics, with the track and field action set to be held between Thursday, August 1, and Sunday, August 11.
